inspiration: emma stone golden globes

with wedding season upon us i have been researching versatile cocktail dress options to get me through.  i can't wait to wear the fun short, bright dresses of wedding seasons past and present; however, this year i got a curve ball:  black tie. new york city. may. 7:00pm wedding.

pretty sure a tight, short hot-pink number would be frowned upon so i have been scouring the internet for an affordable option.  sure there is RTR but i'm picky and i usually prefer the gowns that rent for $200+ - that doesn't really seem like a deal to me.  so with a trusty black option in my back pocket and as a last resort (so boring though right?) i decided to take the plunge and order the clean t-shirt maxi from Topshop.  at $116 i have relatively low guilt and i kind of feel like i may have an emma stone moment in it??? (see inspiration below).

Topshop - Clean T-Shirt Maxi Dress

now i just need for the fashion gods to smile upon me and make this work. a few very serious concerns:
the length
the color
the fabric

wish me luck!

craving: Rag & Bone Racine Pant

obsessing over the Rag & Bone Racine pant.  the bright colors/flowy silhouette would be perfect for a rehearsal dinner or any pre-wedding festivity don't you think???

it's no secret that i love/crave/obsess over all things CHANEL

new BOY CHANEL line is no exception. stunning photography and ad campaign featuring the prettiest punk - Alice Dellal.

spring studs

hi friends! apologies for the hiatus - i survived february (thanks to Mexico & Miami) and emerged fresh faced and energetic in March.

now on to fashion.  i have been on a major closet edit streak since the boy moved in and downsized my generous closet space.  gone are the mangled gold heels hanging on from college and the dirty nude pumps that made their way through 2011 wedding season.

JCrew Savina Studded Sandal

We all know the current obsession with all things Valentino & studded so I hopped on the copy cat train (hey! i'm on a budget) and purchased these stunners.

A patent neutral tan with golden metallic studs and the au courant ankle strap and manageable heel shall have me swimming through parties, weddings and work all summer long.

Here's to a neon pedicure and open toe shoe season.

warm-up

january has been a cold, hard month to swallow - but i have been pushing through with warm thoughts of vacations to come.  february and march hold annual rix family vacation to mexico and a special bride-to-be's bachelorette in miami.

to prepare - i have been steadfast and doing the jillian michael's 30-day shred. i have never been one for work-out video's but it works! and seriously 20 minutes and you are dead tired. i'm really liking it.

since i have been so diligent with my workouts - i'm splurging on a new beach ensemble.

why?

call me classic, but i just DO NOT get the wedge sneaker phenomenon creeping around these days.  i cannot think of one dressing scenario in which i would be like - hey! i should wear heeled sneakers????

seriously.  i die for all things isabel marant and alexander wang and usually love the quirky/cute stylings of manrepeller, but these things have got to go!

agree with me people? all for the banishment of heinous sneaker wedges say AYE!Publish Post

inspiration: miranda kerr

has anyone else noticed that miranda kerr has been killing it with the outfits lately?  i mean it helps that she has a victoria's secret body, cutest baby ever and is the face of my current obsession Rag & Bone - but seriously im feeling some major inspiration from the pics snapped below:

winter classics

i love the fall/winter seasons to get back to basics and re-invest in timeless pieces that can go the distance.  with a strapped wallet and busy agenda i am honing in on items that can go from work to cocktails to running errands around town (sigh, that leaves out a sequin dress i've been coveting)

below are a few pieces i recently shopped and have found endless ways to style.

as you can see...i am opting for little to no color this winter, but in my opinion black/white/grey neutrals are always considered to be chic.

annnddddd it snowed this weekend, in October. i would be really a lot more excited about this weather if i had this to cozy up with.

outfit inspiration: fitted blazer & skinnies

this perfectly styled outfit caught my eye on the Intermix website.  it is a superb mix of edge & polish and appropriate for day to night.  i love the waxed j brand skinny jeans.  they are high on my fall wishlist.

crave: stubbs & wooton

whoa whoa whoa. hold the phone. it's friday and the internets have delivered to me a gift.

Olivia Palermo has a style blog! www.oliviapalermo.com Thank you @ Tibi PR.

Thus when my favorite lady of fashion blogs - I listen!  Of course she has leopard Stubbs & Wooton loafers in her personal collection, but wait a second - you can also custom order Stubbs loafers through their website (a fact i did not know)

And so the drooling begins...

Too much?

Happy Friday loves. xoxo

want: SUPER

maybe it's the changing of the seasons or having borrowing a pair of frames from a friend, or that fact that i watched Breakfast At Tiffany's on netflix instant last night - but i am craving a new pair of sunglasses.

inspiration via

in the heat of the summer, a heavy framed, dark lens pair of glasses just doesn't suit me, i'm faithful to my light and easy Ray Ban aviators. and so i have been searching for an autumn alternative...of course i first looked to the the Ray Ban wayfarer, but these just don't sit quite right on me and then i found SUPER.  these are amazing, italian made glasses that come in a variety of colors and span every shape from classic to modern.  i love how simple they are without any big logo's or metal.  perfectly neutral and basic, but with luxury construction & quality.

yes please!  Of course these are on backorder...

bangle love

broke down and purchased a spike bangle from Giles & Brother.  i couldn't help myself when this golden nugget went on-sale. arm parties rejoice!

current obsessions

it's been non-stop around here lately.  lots of travel & work with hardly any down-time in between.  despite the hectic schedule (and my lack of blogging) the obsessions have been brewing up in my cranium.

and so they go:

STYLE

via Vogue
I cannot get enough Emmanuelle Alt, the current queen bee over at French Vogue.  Her tomboy chic attire just sends me through the roof - the definition of effortless chic.  If you haven't read the profile on her in September's issue of American Vogue, do so immediately.  Can you say girl crush? Oui!

via Tom Binns
Tom Binn's jewelry is so beautiful.  The punk pave collection is simple and delicate, but oh so edgy with the mini spikes.  I need this ring to be worn on middle finger ASAP.

EAT

via
Peregrine Espresso.  I love this place.  Their coffee is absolutely delicious - bold and rich, but never bitter.  It is the perfect treat.  I especially love their pedaler service - where they deliver your coffee beans to you for home brewing via bike.

via
Baked Mac 'n Cheese. this isn't really a current obsession, more like perpetual, but ever since we ordered it at Cafe Chloe in San Diego (literally - best food & date ever) I have been dying to re-create and indulge in some mac 'n cheese.

MUSIC

we saw them live last week at the Black Cat.  seriously good tunes.

via
Black Keys live at Virgin fest fueled my love for the incredibly talented and down right awesome Auerbach. Nothing better than listening to this record on vinyl and relaxing with a good beer in hand.

OTHER

via Tibi Blog
mis-matched, but coordinated, bridesmaids dresses a la Tibi (but of course).  my BESTIE is getting married :)

Swoon.  I love everything in the post.

Off to sunny LA for a beautiful wedding.  Can't wait for all of the laughs, glasses of champagne, and many photo's to come.

arm party - update

ever on my eternal quest for the perfect arm party...i stumbled upon these tough girl chains over the weekend. typically i consider mixing metals a must, but i was drawn to the edgier chains finished in a bright shiny silver.  alas, the quest continue's but i'm pretty happy with the crowd at the party today.

color crush continued

while my closet is reflecting mostly black, white & every shade of grey in between. i am still crushing hard on color-blocking and brights.  can't get enough of the red/hot pink combo these days a la emma stone & sjp.

fall re-fresh

i have been seriously tempted by all of fall's vibrant colors and plush textures, but right now busy schedules and hot temps have made those purchases even more frivolous.  so what's a girl to do?  focus on the basics!

classic shapes and quality fabric/fit elevate any outfit.  i splurged on 2 new pair of jeans that fit amazingly and i am certain to be wearing all of fall/winter/and beyond.

this denim does the job and doesn't need anything else other than a crisp white shirt.  instant chic.

BUT you can't always forget the funky things...so i also left M street with a pair of these:

obsessed already - i've worn them 3 days in a row.  so comfortable and add the "something special" to my basic b&w work ensembles.
