Yur Not Dead

My ears are still buzzing from the rockin' show last night.  It is unreal seeing one of your favorite bands in such an intimate setting - such as an unfinished basement with 75 people you sort of know.

This one is definitely going down in the books as an all time favorite - good music, good people -  all the elements of a killer time were present:

Atmosphere

Good People

PBR's & Mason Jars

& 2 killer bands

The Moderate opened the night strong...
The Moderate

Followed by Futurebirds, who at this point you probably know im just a little bit obsessed.  The guys were chill and the music was LOUD, just the way it should be.

best song of the night - "Yur Not Dead" during the encore...it got a little crazy and i loved every minute of it.

*Sorry for iPhone pics only.  Didn't want to lug the SLR.

HAPPY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL

27 December 2010

And A Merry Christmas...

Every year I am reminded how blessed my family and I are.  I love spending time at home over the holidays and sharing LOTS of laughs and good food with them.

As far as Rix Family traditions go, Christmas Eve is always a formal dinner in the Circular Dining Room at the Hershey Hotel and christmas pictures.

yeah the cousins  tried a jumping goofy shot...just awkward

We had a low-key Christmas Day with a non-traditional meal of appetizers - BBQ Pork Sliders, Swedish Meatballs, Shrimp Cocktail, yum!  It was relaxed and so fun after the festivities of the night before, and HUGE meal.

I hope everyone had a VERY merry christmas and has safe travels back in this snow.

CALIFORNIA - TV Production: That's A Wrap

And that's a wrap folks.  2 weeks, 3 commercials, minimal sleep and so many fun and new experiences.  I thoroughly enjoyed my first full length film production and I am still in sort of a haze returning home and adjusting back to normal life.

California decided to embrace the "storm" scene of our 3rd commercial and torrentially downpour for our last few days.  It literally rained all day, every day....but we made it work and my hunter wellies got A LOT of use.
wellies!

taking shelter in "video village"

yes, i wore a poncho skirt. monsoon is not a understatement

It was amazing to see the prop department build such an incredible set.  Every inch of ground was covered in debris and was an impressive recreation of massive storm damage...

After two nights of shooting from 4pm - 4am in the pouring rain we were all ready to head home for the holidays.  We had the best cast of Army National Guard soldiers and I was so happy to get to know each of them.

The final night was a celebration dinner in downtown Santa Monica at Sushi Roku, yum!  Besides amazing sushi, a highlight was another celebrity sighting: Bill & Suki from True Blood

A BIG Thank YOU to everyone for making this production happen - California Army National Guard, Original Film Productions, Director - Mikael Solomon, and of course the LM&O team.  We had the best partners & I am thrilled to deliver a top-notch product to our client.

SO happy to be home for the holidays....Christmas Eve dinner tonight with the family. LOVE. xoxo

CALIFORNIA - TV Production 2

10 down, 5 to go....

This trip has been a whirlwind. fun, busy, exciting, boring, and everything in between. In the past few days we have moved locations south of LA (Los Alamitos JFTB) and recorded the voice-overs at PopSound studios in Santa Monica.

Too tired for words....pictures will have to suffice:

CALIFORNIA - TV Production

Hellooooo!  I promised to be a diligent blogger throughout this experience, but I have never been so busy in my entire life - and I forgot the powercord to my computer in the rush of leaving last week.  A big THANK  YOU to my roomate for UPS'ing it overnight.  Production has been 15 hour days and running around everywhere trying to get things done ASAP (of course).  It has been exhausting and fun all at the same time.  It is so amazing to see this thing through, from brainstorms at the agency and seeing their original storyboards materialize while watching playback of what film will actually make the spot has been incredible.

Where to begin?  We flew into LAX and took the scenic drive up the Pacific Coast Highway to Paso Robles, CA where we shot our first spot of the three total on base at Camp Roberts. The scenery out here is gorgeous.

After a few days of prep work, un-packing,  pre-production meetings, and picking up the cast of soldiers from the airport we were ready to begin filming the "Fire" spot.

Moving to location #2 for the duration of the production today - Los Alamitos JFTB air base in Los Alamitos, CA.  Yay for SoCAL...

MISS ALL MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS!

web finds

i am always on the lookout for sites that offer a fresh perspective about fashion, music, etc. and since i have joined the blogosphere i have certainly uncovered many such sites/people to inspire me.  the other day i stumbled upon two sites that were not apart of my normal web browsing routine.

www.shopnastygal.com

how have i not heard of Nasty Gal yet is a mystery to me.  the site offers a mix of vintage and new clothing all with that dose of attitude and edge, which i gravitate towards in my "off duty" clothes.  lower price points (compare to LuLu's) and items totally on trend.  this evening's awesome find...

fuschia silk wrap dress - $94

newnormalmusic.com

for all you pandora faithfuls - try this site out.  they play an eclectic mix of alternative and indie music - highlighting a lot of hip & rocking newcomers.  i'm usually pretty set on my Y-Rock routine when it comes listening to online radio, but this site rocks!  they only feature songs from the past 12 months, so you know its hot off the press - amazing if you are searching for a new band or single to put on repeat.

next time your surfing the web, seriously consider perusing the fashion finds at NASTY GAL while listening to NEW NORMAL MUSIC - they will not dissapoint!

Madewell Opening - Georgetown DC

Madewell - J.Crew's sibling shop opened up in DC last week and I was happy to head over to Georgetown for an evening soiree and shopping with my good friend Meredith.

The store was packed with clothes and avid shoppers and I definitely think it breathes a little life into the DC retail scene.  All the necessary items for a successful opening were present - champagne cocktails, cupcakes, DJ, photobooth and racks of enviable ensembles.

I failed to take any pics as we were busy perusing the merchandise, but the event was covered by BrightestYoungThings. All pics by Dakota Fine

While I swooned over the Alexa Chung capsule collection she did for the brand a few months back, the regular stock was just as fab.  Incredible for basic jeans, sweaters & the staple femme blouse and with pricetags that don't hit too hard.

Favorite finds of my inaugural Madewell trip:
clerkenwell blouse - $110

high riser jeans - $98
snapshot minidress - $138
