web finds

i am always on the lookout for sites that offer a fresh perspective about fashion, music, etc. and since i have joined the blogosphere i have certainly uncovered many such sites/people to inspire me.  the other day i stumbled upon two sites that were not apart of my normal web browsing routine.

www.shopnastygal.com

how have i not heard of Nasty Gal yet is a mystery to me.  the site offers a mix of vintage and new clothing all with that dose of attitude and edge, which i gravitate towards in my "off duty" clothes.  lower price points (compare to LuLu's) and items totally on trend.  this evening's awesome find...

fuschia silk wrap dress - $94

newnormalmusic.com

for all you pandora faithfuls - try this site out.  they play an eclectic mix of alternative and indie music - highlighting a lot of hip & rocking newcomers.  i'm usually pretty set on my Y-Rock routine when it comes listening to online radio, but this site rocks!  they only feature songs from the past 12 months, so you know its hot off the press - amazing if you are searching for a new band or single to put on repeat.

next time your surfing the web, seriously consider perusing the fashion finds at NASTY GAL while listening to NEW NORMAL MUSIC - they will not dissapoint!

Madewell Opening - Georgetown DC

Madewell - J.Crew's sibling shop opened up in DC last week and I was happy to head over to Georgetown for an evening soiree and shopping with my good friend Meredith.

The store was packed with clothes and avid shoppers and I definitely think it breathes a little life into the DC retail scene.  All the necessary items for a successful opening were present - champagne cocktails, cupcakes, DJ, photobooth and racks of enviable ensembles.

I failed to take any pics as we were busy perusing the merchandise, but the event was covered by BrightestYoungThings. All pics by Dakota Fine

While I swooned over the Alexa Chung capsule collection she did for the brand a few months back, the regular stock was just as fab.  Incredible for basic jeans, sweaters & the staple femme blouse and with pricetags that don't hit too hard.

Favorite finds of my inaugural Madewell trip:
clerkenwell blouse - $110

high riser jeans - $98
snapshot minidress - $138

bandwagon

tweeted by Sea of Shoes, re-blogged by moi

i don't care if blogging has become this generations bandwagon activity.  i love keeping up with all my friends and their unique personalities via the world wide web and it is fun to express your personal style, likes/dislikes, taste, et all to the rest of the world (for those who may care)

my blogging philosophy has always been that if you are a hater - don't read.

this article is pretty funny and i can't say it is far from the truth...oh well,  i've jumped on the blogging bandwagon and i'm enjoying the ride...

Lot's of pictures to come because Lindsay is bringin' her new camera, yay!  Happy Friday!!!!

Alexa Appreciation

It's official, my fashion favorite made Vogue's Best Dressed of 2010 . I have shown this look of hers before because it is off the charts.  Red, ballet flats, hair up in a chignon - it is everything i love.

RATATAT

Music Monday!  Busy week this week, so forgive me if there are few updates.

Listening to RATATAT all day today while powering through this Excel report at my desk.  It is the perfect mellow electronica (no vocals) music to listen to in the background while getting things accomplished or to just relax at home.

Enjoy!

Necessary Extravagance

I am surprisingly set on basics since I pretty much wear the same black/white/grey combo every single day.  So yesterday it was time to splurge - anyone else not able to get enough of all things sequin/shiny?

JCrew Starry Night Cardigan
I can think of endless outfits to wear this sequin stunner with and the dark army/bronze green color is the perfect boost to my monochromatic wardrobe.
Dressed up with a silk blouse, skirt & heels and a red/orange lip with this green color is perfection.  NARS lipstick you will be getting used up this holiday season.
Dressed down with boyfriend jeans, oxfords & a plain white T.

Urban Outfitters - BDG Hi-Rise Cigarette
If you've been reading you know I am obsessed with all things high-waisted.  These jeans are perfection and SO affordable.
Joie- Elvia Lace Top
I scored a knock-off of this Joie black lace top at H&M.  Will be wearing with black cropped trousers and a patent pump - so chic.
Steve Madden Trouser Oxford in Pewter
Per my post last week on metallic oxfords -- I found these and they just blew the F21 pair right out of the water.  These add shine to any ensemble.

Silver City Shoes

I've gushed about the style of Miss Olivia P on here before...but a specific fashion "moment" has been in my head since an episode of The City aired last year.  If you didn't watch the show, I understand if you don't want to admit it, Olivia was running fake errands all over the city researching accessories for an upcoming shoot.  Well the smart lady knew that this task would only be more painful (literally & figuratively) while wearing sky high stilettos - so viola! she appears in adorable silver oxfords.

HELLO - thank you for having some aspect of the show be genuine - no one in their right mind would run errands in 5 inch, $900 shoes.   Apparently they are her real shoes too because she has been spotted wearing them outside of filming

I had forgotten all about this until I saw them at a steal of a price at Forever 21
Futuristic Lace-Up Flats, $22.80

I die for the high-waisted pink shorts.

spotlight: Moschino Cheap & Chic

If ever you have seen me, you know I wear my fair share of black, white, and grey - especially in the winter.  I was getting down on myself for not mixing it up and incorporating color until I saw the new arrivals from Moschino Cheap & Chic on Net-A-Porter this morning.  Love when my lack of color is vindicated!

Veg Head

What a fun weekend!  A couple of things aligned this weekend that got me to thinking about trying out a vegetarian lifestyle - maybe if it is only during the week and indulging on the weekends.

One, my good friend was in town and she has been vegetarian for over a year.  Talking about all of the satisfying and yummy dishes she makes I found that I really don't eat that much meat on a regular basis and would be able to enjoy just as flavorful things without the added meat.

Two, we walked around Eastern Market and I am always inspired to eat more wholly when I am walking the rows of locally grown produce.  It looks so fresh and doesn't have all of the "markings" and wear and tear that fruits and vegetables in the grocery store seem to have.

Third, all around I think it would help me to focus on what you eat.  Not a diet, but to be more conscious effort to feed yourself whole foods (no preservatives/processed things)

Of course there are concerns - I am the first one to admit that a cheeseburger and fries are undeniable and that this would require a lot of extra time and planning on my part.  I don't ever think I would be satisfied to just sit down to a dinner of cold raw vegetables.

Going to do some research and see where it takes me.  Some recommendations:

The Kind Diet
This is Vegan - which I will never do, but good recipes/ideas nonetheless

The Modern Vegetarian
Also, Martha Stewart Living and Real Simple magazines offer up a surprisingly large amount of vegetarian recipes.

beautiful orange tulips from whole foods. great girls weekend :)

Music Must: Mumford & Sons

I am loving the first album from Mumford & Sons.  Friends have been raving about them for the past few months and they are gaining momentum with sold out shows across the country - which means get the album now!

LM&O Fall Outing

I cannot say enough how nice it is to be apart of a company such as LM&O.  Everyday I get to try new things and experience all of the facets of the Ad biz.....and I'm not just sucking up (since i have recently learned of some colleague readership)

We had the perfect day for a company outing to LaGrange Vineyards in Haymarket VA.  A complete "feel good" event in a picturesque setting really made me appreciative of my job, this company, and amazing people that I am fortunate enough to work for/with everyday.

Also I was lucky enough to shoot these with the agencies new Cannon G11 Powershot. Love this camera, I want one!
